Repeat these steps for each of the states and sales people in your organization and click "Save".

After you save your rule, be sure to activate it using "Actions -> Activate".

Note: you must deactivate a lead if you want to edit it.

To test our rule, create a new lead and enter "IL" for the State field.

After you save the Lead, the Workflow rule will trigger (because the Lead was created) and it automatically assigns the Lead to CRM User1 per the workflow rule we created!

If you change how states are assigned to salespeople, or if you want the change the ownership assignments you can manually apply the "Assign Leads by State" rule to reassign your existing leads.

Go to the Leads page, and select all of the Leads. Click "Actions -> Apply Rule"

Even though the workflow rule we created had a "Create" event trigger, you can still apply this rule manually.

Click "OK" and the workflow rule will reassign the Leads based on your modified rule.
